I know that I’m becoming old, because I’m getting disgruntled and cynical about everything.
With every passing day, I find more to moan and groan about. I feel like the kids these days have everything so easy, and they have absolutely no idea how privileged they are. Everything these days is available on command. It’s instant gratification everywhere you turn, from purchasing things online and having them arrive within an hour, all the way to finding your life partner through the magic of cell phone apps. Everything in life is right at your fingertips, all the time. There is so little pressure or stress and nobody realizes it. Recently, I was talking to my nephew who was complaining about his indoor air quality. Apparently, he recently found out that he’s actually supposed to maintain his indoor air quality control equipment, and his mind was absolutely blown. For the 20 years that he lived with my brother, he never had to worry about the indoor air quality or air handling equipment. He had no clue that air filter changes were a thing, emergency repairs happened in the middle of the night, and routine maintenance service appointments are necessary. I was trying to reason with him about the HVAC conundrum, when he looked at his phone and told me he had a delivery coming soon. A delivery for what? Air filters. Apparently, you can even sign up for an air filter subscription these days, so he never has to remember to change the filtration device on his own. Even with auto-delivered air filters and inherent reminders to complete the simple maintenance task, he was complaining. With all of these modern technological advancements, I don’t know what is left to bitch about.
