After about 10 years, a gas fireplace is just about done for, then as upset as this is, in the first 2-3 years of its life, a significant decrease in efficiency happens… If you are not on it with cleaning and maintaining your gas fireplace, it will not live that long, however getting a Heating and A/C supplier to our new home has proven to be just about impossible.
- I wanted to be great and do correct heating tune ups every fall season.
Any local Heating and A/C supplier I called either put me on a waiting list, did not call me back or refused to make the drive to our home, then my gas fireplace just went years with no professional help. My fiance and I did everything the two of us could. I wiped the outside and vacuumed up the inside once a year. My fiance frequently would mess with the electric start, and that has been the oil furnace maintenance that won’t go away. The fireplace is a little odd about turning on and off. The wireless remote no longer will operate our gas furnace, but you have to manually turn it on and off! Sometimes the fireplace just won’t turn on. My fiance and I keep messing and messing with it then. After the oil furnace comes on, sometimes it won’t turn off. There are afternoons that the new home is around 76 degrees and the oil furnace won’t turn off. I would rather have this than the reverse. I guess I need a new gas furnace, but I just can’t make myself put in the time, effort and work.
