Getting to know you

I told him that she was fortunate because at least she could take advantage of a breeze outside and not be stuck in a tepid humid kitchen

My future hubby and I grew up in unusual states so every one of us had to make an effort to get to guess each other’s families prior to the ceremony; Once every one of us announced our engagement every one of us planned multiple getaway weekends to visit each other’s homes. It is about a four-hour ride to her parents condo so every one of us always left early in the day to get there in time for supper, but she grew up where family meal time is truly important so I wanted to make a good impression on our future mother-in-law. I’m not much of a cook myself so I took advantage of spending time in the kitchen with her preparing the meals when I could… The only downfall to that was the fact that they do not have air conditioning in their condo and it was the middle of Summer so it made cooking truly uncomfortable. She had worked that way all of her life so she didn’t seem to notice and I tried to keep a positive attitude throughout the whole ordeal, my fiance would joke with me on the way home each time because she said she could tell by the look on our face I wasn’t definitely blissful spending time in the kitchen. I told him she was welcome to join us and spend time with her Dad as well however she declined and said she would rather hang out with her dad in the backyard. I told him that she was fortunate because at least she could take advantage of a breeze outside and not be stuck in a tepid humid kitchen. I also told him that if she expected me to make family meals everyday I better have a weather conditions-controlled environment to do it in.
