When we bought our house, it was already equipped with a boiler oil furnace.
The boiler was affixed to radiators in each of the rooms.
While the boiler operated reliably, quietly and efficiently, I wasn’t ecstatic with the radiators. They made a hissing sound whenever they started up and became dangerouslyhotto the touch. I was terrified the teenagers or the pet would get burned, however plus, those radiators were ugly and required manual adjustment. While each one flaunted an independent thermostat, I didn’t love having to turn them on and off depending on occupancy of the various rooms. When our husband and I finally saved up enough money to tackle a major remodeling project, I was determined to make updates to the oil furnace. I called a local Heating plus A/C business for a consultation. I told him our plans to tear out the old floors, and he recommended installing radiant floor heating; Retrofitting the pipes into our apartment was a bit extravagant but it was absolutely worth it. The entire heating plan is now hidden beneath the floors. It takes up no residing space, never detracts from aesthetics and makes no noise. It is completely safe and spreads the heat evenly across the floors. Walking barefoot on radiant floors in the middle of Winter is the ultimate in luxury. Plus, the floors are controlled by Wi-Fi thermostats which allows access from an app on our smartphone. Each room is able to be adjusted remotely and independently. The radiant floors still affix to the boiler but are way more energy efficient than the old radiators. We’ve not only improved the look and suppose of the house, but we’re saving money on our heating bills.
