My apartment A/C froze up because I turned the thermostat to 60 degrees

After high school, my best friend and I decided to get jobs and go to work.

We both worked at the diner at night, and I attended classes during the day for a while.

My best friend tried attending classes too, but she partied way too much at night. Eventually, I was partying too much to study too. Both of us could have done better, but we should have lived at home instead of getting our own apartment. I remember one weekend in particular, when my best friend and I decided to have a huge party. There were 20 or more people in the apartment at one time, and the indoor temperatures were hot despite the A/C being on. I thought it would be a good idea to adjust the thermostat temperature to 60°. With so many people in our apartment, I just wanted a cool atmosphere. I had no idea this action would cause problems with the A/C unit. My best friend and I passed out sometime after 3 am, and I woke up first. I was sweating profusely, and the air conditioner wasn’t working. The temperature was still set to 60°, but the indoor temperature was only 78. I knew something was wrong and I immediately decided to contact the apartment maintenance staff. They came over before lunch to look at the A/C. They determined that the problem was an iced unit. When I set the thermostat to 60 degrees, I caused this awful chain reaction. I had to wait several hours for the A/C unit to thaw out.
