When I first moved to the region, I thought that it was quiet – maybe too quiet for my taste.
That’s not to say that there was no one living here or nothing going on, but there was a major absence of providers for trade skills.
The closest plumber was twenty minutes away, and there wasn’t even an electrician within a twenty mile radius. This had me just a bit worried, since I work as a heating, ventilation and air conditioning service contractor. I’m a one-man team for the time being, but I’m fully certified! Anyway, I’ve been going door to door and providing brochures to the residents here, letting them know that there’s a new HVAC service provider in town for anyone who has issues with their furnace, A/C unit, or whatever else they use for staying comfortable. As it turns out, my services were needed here much more than I expected! Within a day of me dropping off these mailers for people, I’ve already had three people call to schedule repairs. When I visited my first customer, they told me about how they haven’t had an HVAC contractor in town for over three years! Now, there was a major opportunity to get a ton of business, and keep me busy while I build a client list for the area. The only other thing I needed to worry about was making sure there was a supplier nearby for components that I’d need for repairs. I knew I could always have these things shipped out, but come on – I don’t want to pay a fortune to ship all these things out from online retailers! I guess I might need to open an HVAC supply company in this area, too.
